Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and Mindfulness are fast becoming the practices that many are turning to for various reasons. These include managing stress, restoring balance, self-management of disease and personal or spiritual development.

A body of research has been conducted worldwide which supports that Meditation and Mindfulness have profound benefits in management and treatment of physical and psychological conditions. The research is powerful, providing individuals with the evidence to comfortably rely on these practices as a strategy to support their mental health and well-being.

In the fast-paced world we live in, we are not encouraged to sit still or be silent which can feed our overactive chattering mind. This most often results in stress, agitation and becoming easily distracted. The art of being still and allowing our body and minds to rest while remaining in an awake and alert state can overcome many of these challenges.

What’s the difference between Meditation and Mindfulness?

Meditation is a formal practice using a technique or a combination of techniques for a set time. The aim is to experience various outcomes such as relaxation, clarity, enlightenment and spiritual awakening. It is another state of conscious awareness.

Mindfulness can be both a formal and an informal practice. Formal practices help individuals improve their concentration skills through the focus of their attention for a set time. Informal practices are where paying attention occurs spontaneously. In summary, mindfulness is the ability to increase our awareness, paying attention to the present moment without judgement.
